Open House Rome stems from the idea of a group of architects and communicators oriented towards socio-cultural innovation. During the annual event, which spans 9 days celebrating design and architecture in the capital, approximately 200 sites from any era and typically inaccessible are opened to the public through free guided tours.
The values of the Open House Rome event include accessibility, enhancement of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage, sharing knowledge and the beauty of architecture, and the opportunity to engage the community in discovering and appreciating the built environment.
These fundamental values have formed the core of our creative process. Ci siamo sofferma We focused on the concepts of “inside-out”, space interconnection, and accessibility without closures, reflecting on how this event allows people to cross the thresholds of otherwise inaccessible places.
The first image that took shape in our minds was that of a portal: a dimension always open that delimits spaces without ever closing them, symbolizing total openness and welcome.
The concept of the portal, therefore, is not limited solely to its manifestation as an architectural element but also extends to its nature as an archetype in the architectural dimension. Reflecting on its symbolic and functional value, the portal has been a point of transition and access, a symbol of openness and connection between different spaces and worlds.
This symbolism intrinsic to the concept of the portal inspired our vision for the installation, embodying the idea of continuous openness and cross-connection between what is inside and what is outside, which characterizes the essence of the Open House event.
The portal gadget, the result of collaboration with Printaly and Arti Grafiche Celori, is not only a memory of their project for the Open House event in Rome but also a practical and memorable companion for every desk
A pop-up postcard that blends elegance and functionality, offering users a unique piece that not only enlivens their workspace but also reminds them every day of the engaging experience with Open House and materieunite.
Furthermore, we have created a cutting-edge talk area that represents the perfect fusion of innovation and sustainability.
Skillfully using waste materials from our production, we have brought to life chairs with a unique design, embellished with a combination of wood and corrugated cardboard, all in an elegant total black tone.
To complete the contemporary and welcoming atmosphere of the talk area, we introduced a design coffee table also made of corrugated cardboard and strictly black.
Each piece has been carefully designed to reduce waste and enhance available resources, demonstrating that sustainability can be integrated without compromise into the world of design.
