Frequently asked questions

IS CARDBOARD A FRAGILE MATERIAL?

No, the cardboard we use is of a higher quality than traditional corrugated cardboard. It can last years and years, especially if treated and processed to further improve its strength.

IS THERE SUCH A THING AS FLAMEPROOF CARDBOARD?

Certain varieties of honeycomb cardboard have a “Class 1” fire-resistance rating, that is, the level required for exhibitions.

HOW CAN CARDBOARD BE WATERPROOFED?

We pair the cardboard with other more resistant and waterproof materials – albeit always natural and recyclable – such as Linoleum (completely natural, made from wood flour, linseed oil, resins and natural fibres) or Greencast (a recyclable Plexiglass made from old recycled acrylic sheets).

CAN A STAND BE DISMANTLED AND RE-ASSEMBLED?

Absolutely, you just need to be gentle when assembling and dismantling it.

IS CARDBOARD THE ONLY DESIGN MATERIAL YOU USE?

No, materieunite began as a design experiment founded on the basic principles of sustainability: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Research into materials is ongoing, and with it the study of the opportunities they can offer for good Design projects.
