Geowall: an Interactive Installation

The combination of two highly innovative and ecologically sustainable materials, PaperStone® and Green Cast®, come together to create Geowall. This panel is located on the Silversea Origin cruise ship, representing the Galapagos Islands. Advanced technology and sustainability merge, giving life to a design project composed entirely of recycled materials.

Geowall is a work of art designed and created by materieunite for Sketchin Italia.

Positioned within the Silversea Origin’s bootcamp, Geowall represents the Galapagos Islands archipelago.

It measures approximately 150×150 cm and serves as the three-dimensional interface for a video mapping projection, specially designed to display the ship’s itinerary and real-time movement. It works in tandem with a curved maxi LED wall, where guests can view and plan their cruise excursions.

Silversea Cruises is one of the most renowned luxury cruise companies worldwide. Therefore, we decided to use sophisticated and innovative materials in line with the sustainability principles that characterize all materieunite projects.

Geowall is composed of a panel of PaperStone®, engraved by CNC milling and backlit with LED technology through the use of Green Cast®.

PaperStone® is one of the most innovative ecological materials. It is the first composite material made from 100% recycled and FSC® certified paper and cardboard, impregnated with a natural resin called PetroFree™, and natural pigments. The PetroFree™ resin, obtained from industrial waste from cashew nut shells, is free of volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde.

The LED illumination of Geowall is diffused through Green Cast® cast acrylic sheets, produced from 100% recycled raw materials. Green Cast® is another highly innovative material resulting from the recovery and recycling of Polymethylmethacrylate, a plastic substance that can be recycled and returned to its original raw material, Methyl Methacrylate, used for the production of Green Cast®.

Environmental concerns and the concept of modern and refined aesthetics come together, giving life to a design project composed entirely of recycled materials.

Geowall is a concrete example of the possibility of creating a highly performing and sustainable product. The combination of these two materials allows for the creation of an excellent product in line with current trends.

PaperStone® is as resistant as steel, waterproof, scratch-resistant, and has good fire resistance. It can also be worked with the same machines and tools used for woodworking. Together, the Green Cast® panels used for back-lighting have a high diffusion power, allow the elimination of the so-called “spot effect” typical of LED lighting, and reduce the number of LED strips required in an application.

Geowall is positioned within the Silversea Origin cruise ship as an innovative, modern design object in perfect harmony with the company’s brand identity.
