Bio-inspired forms representing the relationship between man and the environment, and how this connection can be replicated on a daily basis through circular systems and innovative processes.
Generative Circularity is the name of the project developed for Fuorisalone 2022, in collaboration with ATI Project, Mogu and Bose Professional.
The installation was presented in the evocative setting of the Fonderia Napoleonica Eugenia, which hosted the exhibition throughout all of Milan Design Week and featured discussions, projections and thematic paths on the role of design in redefining the possibilities of sustainable development.
Within the space, organic structures composed of modular elements gave life to bio-inspired and complex forms, representing the relationship between man and the environment and how this connection can be replicated on a daily basis through circular systems and innovative data management processes applied to the field of design and planning.
At the heart of the project developed by ATI Projects was the theme of parametric design, understood as an aid through which to create innovative solutions.
An installation designed to promote discussion on new design tools in an increasingly digital context that needs to constantly balance functionality, aesthetics and sustainability.
Generative Circularity consists of 123 modular honeycomb cardboard modules, each with 9 layers. A total of 1107 pieces of cut and processed cardboard.
As the executive translators of the ATI Projects initiative, we tested the construction material, taking into account its mechanical properties, weight and cost.
The solution involved using four different types of cardboard: in the low part, the modules are made of a heavier, more resistant material, while in the top part, we preferred to use a lighter cardboard so as not to make the architecture too heavy.
When producing and installing the project, our challenge was to build an assembly sequence that would stay balanced as the construction was progressively developed in height.
We therefore analysed the definition of the structure module by module, and opted for the codification of parts to facilitate assembly and guarantee stability during construction.
Sustainability in a pragmatic key, to restore the balance between architecture, design and the environment.
Generative Circularity is a collaborative and multi-disciplinary process, an installation built in a dynamic and vibrant context such as that of Fuorisalone, where the aim is to offer the opportunity to experience the potential offered by new parametric design tools and initiate an open discussion with different points of view.
