On Friday 12 June 2026, the European Forum on Circular Materials and Temporary Architecture will take place. This official satellite event of the New European Bauhaus Festival 2026 is organised by materieunite at the Sviluppumbria business incubator in Terni Italy. The event can also be followed remotely by connecting to the dedicated link from 09:30 to 19:00 CEST (Central European Summer Time).

Inspired by the philosophy of materieunite, the forum brings together architects, designers, industry stakeholders and researchers to discuss the role of circular materials in the transformation of temporary and adaptive architecture.

In the morning, materieunite will present a keynote on companies’ practices in parametric design, the AGAVE Research Project and new scenarios in the systemic approach to design and the exhibition design supply chain. Following this, in the Lectio Magistralis ‘Designing the Project’, Massimo Ciafrei – lecturer in Basic Design and Theory of Form at ISIA Roma Design – will explore the themes of meta-design, from the culture of the Bauhaus preliminary course to paper as a teaching and design tool, offering reflections on the relationship between material, form and process.

In the afternoon, a workshop facilitated by the designers from materieunite will engage participants in exploring connections and scenarios regarding how design culture can contribute to environmental and social sustainability, and how materials research can be supported by the relationship between businesses, education and the local area. Participants will be divided into three collaborative research clusters, focusing on the following themes:

  1. Materials, Circularity & Certifications
  2. Structures, Morphology & Temporary Architectures
  3. Parametric Design & Digital Fabrication

The forum is also a region-wide event that aims to strengthen the link between design, sustainable practices and the Terni region. The day after the workshop, excursions are planned to landscapes and natural sites that represent the region of Umbria’s biodiversity heritage, as well as to industry and the local community.

The event is sponsored by Ferrocart, a local company specialising in the sorting, processing, recycling and trading of paper and other secondary raw materials.
