From July 12 to 15, 2025, the cycle of workshops for the Master Material Balance Design at the DABC Department of the Milan Polytechnic concluded. We experienced four days of intense research, where computational design and Artificial Intelligence became concrete tools to explore the boundary between digital and material. Starting from a shared vision, the group of students transformed abstract concepts into tangible prototypes, marking a fundamental point of arrival for this academic journey.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">This immersion in the project was guided by the expertise of our R&amp;D team. Jacopo Cardinali and Alessandro Buffi accompanied the participants in analyzing the technical constraints and requirements needed to develop temporary circular installations. The transition from theory to practice allowed the introduction of advanced design methodologies, preparing students for the next phase: the selection and handling of materials for the realization of structural components and eco-sustainable installations.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:0.3em\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/materieunite.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Workshop_MaBa_PoliMi_002-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-928\" srcset=\"https:\/\/materieunite.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Workshop_MaBa_PoliMi_002-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/materieunite.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Workshop_MaBa_PoliMi_002-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:0.3em\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Material experimentation was the beating heart of the workshop. Students designed hybrid structures by integrating natural materials such as wood and textiles with state-of-the-art PLA filaments. <strong>We are facilitators of the circular supply chain<\/strong>, always ensuring the exclusive use of recycled and recyclable resources to reduce the ecological footprint of each intervention. From data analysis to prototyping, each component is designed to minimize waste and maximize aesthetic performance, coming to define a new grammar of sustainable beauty.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Parallel to materials research, the focus shifted to computational tools and form optimization. Sessions delved into the use of generative AI for concept development and computational analysis, steps that are fundamental to managing the complexity of new architectural models. This data analysis phase provided the essential technical foundation to tackle the final construction challenge: the reinterpretation of a classic of architectural ingenuity through innovative modular systems.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:0.3em\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1920\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1080 \/ 1920;\" width=\"1080\" autoplay=\"\" controls=\"\" loop=\"\" muted=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/materieunite.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/rde7_isia_timelapse.mp4\" playsinline=\"\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n<div style=\"height:0.3em\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The culmination of the workshop was the digital and physical reconstruction of Buckminster Fuller&#8217;s geodesic dome. Starting with simple 2D drawings, students worked out complex assembly systems until a full-scale cardboard mock-up was created. At <strong>materieunite<\/strong>, we believe in the power of circular ingenuity: we transform a complex idea into sustainable, solid, ready-to-live architecture.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The creation of the mock-up was not just a technical exercise, but an expression of a deep synergy between our production laboratory and academic research. This constant exchange allows us to test new sustainable practices in a cutting-edge context, where technique meets respect for the environment. The dialogue with students and researchers fuels our vision of an industry of making, paving the way for a necessary reflection on how we will inhabit the exhibition spaces and places of the future.  <\/p>\n\n<p>We would like to thank the #MasterMaBa and Prof. Ingrid Maria Paoletti for welcoming us into this stimulating laboratory of experimentation. Participating in this initiative is a valuable opportunity for us to regenerate our corporate mission: to unite the useful with the sustainable through fittings made of cardboard and circular materials.
