Every year in October, in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, Dutch Design Week<\/a><\/strong> (DDW)<\/strong><\/a> is held, Northern Europe\u2019s biggest design event. For nine days non-stop, more than 110 locations scattered throughout the entire city host exhibitions, conferences, award ceremonies, networking events, debates and parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cIN THINGS\u201d<\/strong> exhibition presented at DDW 22<\/strong> by the Japanese design firm h220430<\/a><\/strong>, in the MicroLab<\/a> hall, joins this context with an installation designed by materieunite<\/strong>, made exclusively of cardboard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough our work we hope to inspire people and the society they live in to once again develop a warm, loving bond with the things around them.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the overarching theme of the entire exhibition. A message of hope \u2013 addressed to a society increasingly dominated by consumerism, a promoter of transitory disposable relationships \u2013 invites us to re-establish a genuine and lasting connection with the objects around us<\/strong>in order to rediscover their essence and appreciate their value.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Hence the idea for a simple installation in harmony with the exhibition requirements: the structures housing the works on display go unnoticed, allowing the design items to take centre stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Often, when it comes to exhibition displays made of cardboard, the material emerges as a recognisable character within the space, drawing attention to itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this case, however, the design approach is driven by different dynamics: the result is a minimalist installation that is out of sight, while still ensuring a strong visual impact.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Black, fireproof, moisture-resistant cardboard modelled using a special fold system and assembled without the use of glue<\/strong>, gives shape to the display bases on which the design chairs of studio h220430 rest, and to the wall that serves as a backdrop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The traditional appearance of the cardboard is thus reinterpreted on a technical and visual level, in favour of the display. The material is suitably processed to make it more resistant but also more elegant, almost unrecognisable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design of the display structures is clean, meticulous. It conceals the imperfections of the cardboard, elevating this \u201cpoor\u201d material to a smart and exclusive portrayal of matter. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

materieunite, insofar as exhibit technical partner<\/em>, designed and developed the installation, putting cardboard\u2019s potential to the test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A material study that creates semantic consistency between the design objects \u2013 presented as genuine works of art \u2013 and the exhibition space.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
